cavu.social Terms of Service
Effective 26 October 2026. Last updated 26 October 2026.
These terms cover your cavu.social account and the server that hosts it at account.cavu.social. They also apply when you use that account to sign in to cavu.page, cavu.games or any other app.
cavu.social is run personally by Chris Pardy, an individual in Massachusetts ("we", "us"). You can reach us at account@cavu.social.
1. What cavu.social is
cavu.social hosts accounts on the AT Protocol ("atproto"), the open network behind Bluesky and many other apps. Your account has a handle (like you.cavu.social, or your own domain), and the posts, books, games and other records you create are stored here.
Two things about atproto matter for everything below:
- Most of what you post is public. Records in your account's repository can be read by anyone, and they're copied by relays, apps and search services across the network that we don't run. The exception is private data in Spaces, which is shared only with the people and apps a space allows.
- Your account is portable. You can move your account, including your handle and followers, to another atproto server at any time without asking us, and other people's accounts can move here.
2. Who can have an account
You must be at least 18 years old. You may not use cavu.social if you're barred from doing so by law, or if we've previously closed your account for breaking these terms.
3. Your account
- You can sign up with a password or with Google. Keep your password, app passwords and any connected sign-in safe; you're responsible for what's done with your account.
- Every account needs a working email address. We use it for sign-in codes, security notices and account changes, not marketing.
- Handles under cavu.social are first come, first served. We may reclaim or change a handle that impersonates someone, infringes a trademark, is offensive, or is held without use to sell it.
- Accounts may control other accounts (for example, game characters). The controlling account is responsible for everything its controlled accounts do.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You give us permission to store, copy, serve and transmit it, including to the rest of the atproto network, as needed to run the service. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies other people or services have already made (see section 1).
You're responsible for having the rights to what you post, including books, games, images and music.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use cavu.social to:
- break the law, or post content that's illegal where you or we are, including child sexual abuse material (which we report to NCMEC);
- harass, threaten, dox or impersonate people;
- infringe copyright or other rights;
- distribute malware or games and files that harm the people who run them;
- send spam, or create accounts in bulk to manipulate apps, rankings or other users;
- attack, overload or probe the service or other atproto services;
- use the storage as general-purpose file hosting unrelated to atproto apps.
Apps you use with your account (including cavu.page and cavu.games) may have their own rules too.
6. Storage and limits
Each account gets a storage allowance (currently 2 GB in total, with individual files up to 1 GiB). We may change default limits with notice, raise them for specific accounts (for example, game publishers), and rate-limit activity to keep the service healthy.
7. Moderation
We may remove content, limit features or suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the law, or that puts the service or others at risk. Where we can, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond or to move your account elsewhere first. Labels and moderation applied by other atproto services (for example, Bluesky's) are theirs, not ours.
8. Copyright complaints
If you believe content hosted here infringes your copyright, email account@cavu.social with your contact details, the work, and where the content is (its at:// URI or a link). We'll look into it and may remove the content or close accounts that repeatedly infringe.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from account.cavu.social, or move it to another server. We may close accounts as described in section 7. If we ever shut cavu.social down, we'll give at least 60 days' notice so you can move your account, and we'll keep your account able to migrate out during that time.
10. No warranty, no backups
cavu.social is a small, free service run by one person on a best-effort basis, provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will be available, secure, error-free, or that your data won't be lost. We don't keep backups. If data is lost, it's gone: keep your own copies of anything important (your account can be exported at any time). To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
11. No liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable to you or anyone else for any damages or losses of any kind arising from cavu.social or these terms, including direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, and lost data, content, profits or goodwill, however caused and even if we were told they were possible. You use cavu.social at your own risk. You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your content or your use of the service. Some places don't allow some of these exclusions, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we'll give notice by email or on cavu.social at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use your account after that means you accept the new terms; if you don't, you can delete or move your account.
13. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
